Within the scope of the “Information Society”, characterized by intense information flows mediated by technologies in constant improvement, information professionals have a new and extremely important role to play, as society itself organizes itself on communication structures “from many to many”, highly dynamic and intensive in information of several types. Currently, the professional challenges of working in and on networks multiply and renew themselves continuously, requiring professionals who are flexible, innovative and prepared to assess and meet informational demands in continuous change.

In this way, graduates from the Library and Information Science Course, at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, will be able to act critically and technically, supported by information and communication technologies, in management and mediation of information recorded in different formats, both physical and digital, aiming at the democratization of information as a means of guaranteeing citizenship.

The Librarianship and Information Science course at FFCLRP/USP, in its main objective, aims to train information professionals able to work in the various market segments with regard to the planning, execution and evaluation of activities inherent to the implantation, management and development of information units, as well as the understanding of sociocultural processes related to the production, circulation and appropriation of information.
