The Graduate Program in Classical Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo, created in 1971, has as its main objective to prepare researchers committed to scientific and academic development in Greek and Latin Language and Literature, in Master and Doctorate level. Thus, the Program aims to qualify its researchers to interpret ancient prose and poetry, written in Greek and Latin, and to produce studies of the highest level, in dialogue with the most advanced lines of international research. In addition, we also study the ways and means of reception of Classical texts since Antiquity. Our Program, therefore, provides its researchers with skills for Ancient Poetics and Rhetoric,

The relevance of these objectives is due, firstly, to the difficulty of accessing Greek and Latin texts, since they are languages that are no longer spoken, and whose conventions are currently unknown or unused. Thus, its interpretation requires the mediation of specialists. Secondly, the importance of our Program also lies in the fact that the investigations carried out by our researchers establish historical relationships between the ancient and the modern and interdisciplinary relationships between poetry and education, theater and politics, oratory and law, among other possibilities.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Program established a set of parameters in its rules, with the purpose of favoring not only the maintenance of the quality standard already achieved, but also the continuous improvement of its activities.
