In the Department of Psychiatry, the Postgraduate Program began in 1973 with the Master's, starting with the Doctorate in 1979. Initially, the program was directed only to physicians, but from 2002 it began to with the participation of professionals from other training areas, such as Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Exact Sciences, among others.

On December 31, 2020, the program graduated 285 masters and 236 doctors. Currently, the program has 89 students enrolled, of which 45 are master's students and 44 are doctoral students, of which almost half are financially supported by scholarships from the main development agencies in the State of São Paulo, such as the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado of São Paulo (Fapesp), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CAPES).
