The Professional Master's Program in Teaching Astronomy (MPEA) was approved by CAPES in December 2012 and started its activities in August 2013.

The MPEA intends to contribute to the training of teachers who multiply and disseminate knowledge involving the areas of Astronomy and Cosmology. Its central objective is to promote scientific and technological education, and decisively influence primary, secondary and higher education, with emphasis on continuing scientific training, the preparation of didactic material and the updating of the curricular structure, within a transdisciplinary perspective. 

It is also the objective of the MPEA to train human resources for scientific dissemination (journalists, planetarists, curators, cultural agents, etc.) future.

In short, the MPEA aims to bring together the skills of professionals from different areas to develop projects, with themes anchored in astronomy and cosmology, that promote large-scale improvements in society, expanding the worldview and horizon of knowledge and action of its citizens.
