The Graduate Program in Linguistic and Literary Studies in English is dedicated to the study of symbolic productions and ideological structures in the cultural contexts of the English language, focusing on its linguistic aspects (uses, teaching and learning of the language and its relations with practices social and cultural), literary (studies of the three genres, of the social determinations of literary products and of the relationships between literature and other artistic languages, areas of knowledge and critical theories) and translation studies (linguistic aspects and technological devices, aspects literary, political and cultural aspects and relationships with critical activity).
It is a work that is not only multidisciplinary in nature, but also interdisciplinary, whose objective is to develop linguistic and literary investigations and reflections in a non-compartmentalized way. The interdisciplinary aspect is characterized by the interlocution observed between research by professors and students in the various related fields. The multidisciplinary character manifests itself through the six different lines to which these researches are linked.
The Program understands that its mission is to train researchers endowed with information and critical capacity, qualified for teaching in higher education, for research in individual or collective projects, and for professional activities in related areas, such as translation, publishing, etc.
At the same time, the Program seeks to disseminate and make available the results of research carried out by its faculty and students for the academic community and society in general. The targeted training and scientific production aim to deepen scientific knowledge based on significant linguistic, literary and translational theories within the field of international intellectual production. In this way, the aim is to foster the capacity for analysis focused not only on the processes of cultural and literary creation developed in English-speaking contexts and within the hegemonic culture, but also within minority groups.
