The Graduate Program in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Senso Estrito, of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, with the objective of promoting intellectual training and the production of knowledge in the areas of knowledge involved in its area of ​​concentration. This program is based at the Instituto do Coração of the Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP and comprises a set of programmed, advanced and individualized activities, accompanied by a supervisor, which include and privilege teaching and research, always seeking the integration of knowledge. The existence of a Program in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery is justified by the fact that the Instituto do Coração is an autonomous segment within the Faculty of Medicine of USP, developing specific research and teaching activities, with great national and international penetration.

To achieve these objectives, the Graduate Program in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery receives as students, professionals graduated in medicine and individuals graduated in other related areas, who have links or are sent by university and non-university institutions, linked to the Health System. or to research and teaching centers interested in developing projects in their area of ​​expertise. At the end of the course, after passing the disciplines, general qualifying exam and defending the thesis, the student receives the title of Doctor of Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine of USP, in the area of ​​concentration in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
