Chemical Engineering is the area/branch of activity dedicated to the design, development, dimensioning, improvement and application of Chemical Processes and their Products. In this context, economic analysis, sizing, construction, operation, control and management of the Industrial Units that carry out these Chemical Processes are included, as well as research and training in such domains.

The main field of action of the chemical engineer is constituted by the chemical industries. In its broadest sense, the chemical industry encompasses, in addition to the manufacture of chemical products themselves, the sectors of petrochemicals, paints and pigments, detergents, plastics and rubber, cellulose and paper, cement, fertilizers, food, pharmaceuticals, new materials, biotechnological processes, etc. Another important field of activity is the preservation of the environment.
