The Bachelor of Chemistry is a generalist professional, qualified to work in laboratories for the development or improvement of products and processes; in chemical analysis laboratories; in the area of research and development (R&D), whether in technological research for the productive sector or in pure or academic research, aimed at generating new knowledge; in addition to other activities that require professionals with solid and comprehensive training in the field of chemistry and chemical instrumentation.

To meet this generalist training, the Bachelor of Chemistry has deep training in fundamental and conceptual aspects of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The course is organized into two training stages: a) basic core - aiming to provide solid theoretical knowledge of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics and mastery of basic and advanced laboratory and instrumentation techniques, so that the understanding and explanation of physical and chemical phenomena can be interpreted in the light of experimentation and association with theoretical models. The disciplines of this core are organized into modules, seeking integration between the contents of Chemistry and correlations between Chemistry and related areas, aiming to favor interdisciplinarity and not the compartmentalization of knowledge, modules that are described in item V of the Pedagogical Project; b) specific core - complementing training with specific disciplines of certain chemical themes, elective chemical disciplines and broad knowledge disciplines (optional disciplines, which can be attended at any didactic unit at USP); this set of disciplines aims to provide differentiated training for this professional.
